Helping Children With Practical Life Food Struggles

Montessori at Home, Montessori Child, Montessori Guide, Montessori Subjects, Practical Life

Spread the love

Let’s help children learn to eat healthy foods and develop a healthy relationship with food where children are open-minded to at least try new foods.

As you apply the Practical Life principles in Montessori that deal with food, you will want children to approach your meal and snack ideas with an open mind, especially if they are new to them.

So, even if you haven’t had to deal with this yet, you will want to read more about this free resource.

Let's help children learn to eat healthy foods and develop a healthy relationship with food where children are open-minded to at least try new foods.

Montessori Practical Life

This wonderful subject focuses on three main areas: care of self, care of others and care for the environment.

In the care of self and care for others categories, food preparation is involved.

One, focuses on becoming self-sufficient and in being able to make their own meals.

It is so much fun being able to prepare a meal or a snack and then eat it!

The other one is care for others and meal preparation comes into play because it is also fun to share food with others.

It is a great way to incorporate grace and courtesy principles.

Meal preparation develops many skills.

Some of them are: fine motor skills (peeling, cutting, etc), learning healthy eating habits and also learning to eat a variety of foods.

Yikes!

Let's help children learn to eat healthy foods and develop a healthy relationship with food where children are open-minded to at least try new foods.

Helping Children with Food Struggles

Sadly, many children don’t have the right eating behaviors at home and they bring those bad habits into the Montessori classroom.

It can really throw a wrench into your Practical Life meal prep planning because you have to take into consideration everyones likes, dislikes, preferences, etc.

Wouldn’t it be easier if children ate whatever was placed in front of them and all we had to worry about is food allergies?

Instead, we find ourselves discouraged to try meal prep during snack time with young children because of the power struggles.

It is also a waste of resources to let children only prepare and handle the food, but not eat it.

Let’s help children learn to eat healthy foods and develop a healthy relationship with food where children are open-minded to at least try new foods.

There’s a wonderful free 5-day training that I want to invite you to. It is only 5 days and only 30 minutes each day.

  • Go from frustrated to empowered in just 5 days
  • Invest 30 minutes a day to attend live (or catch the replay) and make ONE TINY CHANGE every day
  • Watch in amazement as power struggles at the table dissipate
  • Expect that your children — even highly selective eaters — will make at least one measurable improvement during the week, one step (or 17!) closer to expanding the number of foods they’re open to
  • Feel confident in HOW you serve foods and the words to use to create more safety feelings in your kids’ brains
  • Dial in snacktime so it serves everyone in the family, no complaining
  • Feel like your family is uniting around food at the dinner table, instead of fighting
  • The magic of setting the right HABITS around eating and food that make ALL the difference
  • Prizes for doing the homework, attending live, and inviting friends! (but don’t worry, my rebel friends, you can get the benefit even if you don’t “do” the written homework)
