Your Montessori cultural area can be one of the most exciting places in your Montessori classroom because of the variety of options that you have.
Whether you are doing Montessori at home or at a Montessori school, you definitely need to count on having a Montessori Culture shelf.
In this post, let’s discuss 8 easy ways in which you can incorporate Montessori Culture activities for young children.
Montessori Culture Introduction
Children learn in many ways.
One of the most popular ones is hands-on activities.
Most, if not all, of the Montessori cultural curriculum is kinesthetic in nature.
As an introduction to this curriculum, you can start slow, with 2 or 3 activities.
You can focus on many different areas, such as physical geography of continents, countries, landmarks, etc.
Cultural studies encompass History and Geography.
Wow, I just opened a HUGE door, didn’t I?
There is so much to learn in History and a ton to learn in Geography.
That is such a wonderful notion!
Montessori Culture Materials
Below, I am going to share with you four wonderful hands-on materials that Dr. Maria Montessori encouraged in her philosophy.
I hope that they will inspire you and encourage you to put your ideas together to create a lovely shelf for this Montessori learning in this subject.
In the next section, I will be sharing with you some great Montessori Culture printable activities, so read on.
Kghios Montessori Globe – World Parts Science and Cultural Geography
The Culture subject begins from large to small (Solar System to myself) or the other way around, so the child will understand that there is a great big universe around them.
Here is a Montessori globe where the child will be able to learn about the continents on the planet.
Then, move to learning about the countries in each continent, the flags of each country, foods (which doubles as a Practical Life topic), languages, typical dress, plants and animals (which doubles as a Science topic).
Flags of The World-Montessori Materials Geography Educational Tools Preschool Early
This one is a favorite in our homeschool.
You can use the puzzle maps of the world for each continent, but this one is particularly special because children also learn many flags of the world.
Even though this specific work wasn’t designed by Dr. Maria Montessori, it is as if it had been because it fits perfectly with the philosophy.
MONTESSORI OUTLET 1st Set of Land and Water Form Trays
In case you are wondering what these are, well, they are landforms and Waterford trays.
You have to put some water in a bowl and add a few blue food coloring drops to make it look like it’s water.
Then, you pour the water into all of the grooves.
As the child learns the names of landforms and water forms, such as bay, island, peninsula, etc, it will be easier for them to differentiate water from land and remember the forms better.

And here is another fantastic way to show the child the world without pictures.
This set of world landmarks isn’t officially Montessori, but you can find them in many Montessori environments.
Use them one their own or with nomenclature cards.
Even better, have a map of the continent or country where you can find them and mark them with a star or a tiny photo of that landmark.
The child will understand that these landmarks or monuments are live-sized buildings and statues in real places around the world.
Montessori Culture Printables
Now that we have discussed the hands-on Montessori Materials above, let’s move into the printables.
These are great because they save you space, time and money when you set them up on your shelf.
