Montessori Geography Continents the Easy Way

Culture, Curriculum, Geography, Montessori Subjects

Spread the love

In this post, we are going to be leaning into the beautiful topic of Montessori Geography and give you some great ideas that you will enjoy.

Let me start with telling you that Geography is our favorite Montessori subject, so you are in good hands!

I am so excited to share this great information to you!

I know that many of you are having trouble finding ways to teach the names (and shapes) of the 7 continents and the world.

The thing is that as children go through a lesson, it must be engaging and educational.

Let’s get into the wonderful world of Montessori continents!

In this post, we are going to be leaning into the beautiful topic of Montessori Geography and give you some great ideas that you will enjoy.

In this post, we are going to be leaning into the beautiful topic of Montessori Geography and give you some great ideas that you will enjoy.

Montessori Children are Visual

One of the easiest ways to teach the continents to children is by using visuals.

Children love to be able to make a connection between what they see and they hear.

As you teach about Africa or Antarctica, be sure to have great visuals (pictures, photos, drawings, etc) to show children as you teach them about the 7 continents.

You can use puzzle maps, the continents globe and even a world map.

One of the ways we find this easy to do is by using 3-part cards.

Do you know what 3 part cards are? If not, read on!

In this post, we are going to be leaning into the beautiful topic of Montessori Geography and give you some great ideas that you will enjoy.

Montessori Geography 7 Continents 3-Part Cards

I know, I know…

You might be asking, “What are Montessori 3-part cards?!”

It is a card matching activity that can be used to any and every topic under the sun.

These are cards that are divided into 3 parts that help the child learn in so many ways.

For one, they offer visuals, so it helps the child see what the continents look like and where they are located on a map.

Second, it includes the label card of whatever is on the photo or picture, so the child is also able to see what the names look like in written form as they study those concepts.

This will help children learn what each continent is called.

In this post, we are going to be leaning into the beautiful topic of Montessori Geography and give you some great ideas that you will enjoy.

Why 3-Part Cards are Great for Cultural Studies

Many Montessori classrooms enjoy these 3-part card activities because they save time.

As we already know that 3-part cards is a proven and true learning method, why reinvent the wheel?

These 3-part cards save you space.

You can easily put them on a tray on your shelf and then save them in an envelope for later use.

They will save you money.

This is because you can laminate them and use them over and over instead of buying original Montessori materials that can be expensive.

And trust me, you will be glad you did because children love 3-part cards.

They go to them often.

The great thing, too, is that they are portable!

They are so thin and compact that you can take them with you outside for an outdoor lesson or take them on your trip!

The children will keep up with their skills and others that observe them will be impressed.

I’m planning to include some Montessori ideas with my grandson in the fall who will be attending ‘nana’s preschool’ at my house. I love the idea of having a good tool for geography – I don’t think I would have even thought to introduce that!
