Montessori Sensorial Color Activities for Kids

Curriculum, Montessori Subjects, Sensorial

Spread the love

Montessori Sensorial Color Activities for Kids is a post about what we do with our four Montessori Boxes.

The Montessori Sensorial color activities are the ones that my children enjoy the most out of all of the Montessori activities that we do on a regular basis.

They are one-of-a-kind and distinguish themselves from all other works.

Some Montessori Sensorial works in The Montessori Curriculum are: brown stair, cylinder blocks, pink tower and red rods.

Although both help the child understand the world and survive in it, the Sensorial subject goes beyond and are different than Practical Life.

The color boxes are a great deal of fun!

You can also download a printable set of color tablets to get you started.

Montessori Color Box 1

It comes with six color tablets, with two of each of the primary colors – blue, red, yellow.

With two hands, the child will carry the box to the table.

Next, remove the tablets, one by one, holding it by the white edges (narrower sides).

Place the color tablets in random order and then match them up.

The Box 1 is for children ages 2.5 or older.

The direct aim is color identification.

Montessori Color Box 2

It contains 11 pairs of color tablets in three different colors: primary, secondary colors, and tertiary.

There are two of each type of tablet (red, yellow, blue, purple, green, orange, brown, gray and pink as well as black and white).

The child will repeat the activity from the first box, but the activity will be more difficult because the number of colors in the second box is greater.

One extension for Box 2 that we do is a memory exercise, which means that they place one color tablet set on the rug and the matching tablets on a table at a small distance.

They then match up the color tablets as part of their Sensorial experiences in The Montessori classroom.

This is for children ages 3 or older.

The direct aim is the child developing color identification.

Montessori Color Box 3

Out of the Montessori Materials in the Sensorial subject, this color box has nine separate compartments.

Each compartment contains the same primary, secondary, and tertiary color tablets as the previous one.

This is all, except for black and white color tablets.

Each compartment contains a set of color tablets in a variety of different shades of color.

This is an absolutely stunning box. It’s fantastic.

To begin, teach the child the terms “dark, darker, light, and lighter,” as well as the difference between them.

Pick a color (preferably a primary color) and place the color tablets either in a basket or on a tray.

One by one, place the color tablets in order, from darkest to lightest.

Our favorite extension for Box 3 is the one in the pictures below.

We place the tablets in order, from darkest to lightest and then we begin placing them around a globe.

It is called a Sunburst. As another extension, we make a Sunburst, but we don’t grade the color tablets ahead of time.

This is for children ages 3.5 or older.

The direct aim is color identification and visual discrimination of different color shades.

Montessori Color Box 4

Color tablets are not included in this package.

Instead, it comes with six wooden blocks, each of which is painted a different color and is arranged in descending order from darkest to lightest.

It also includes color-coordinated pegs and bases for each of the colors.

From darkest to lightest, the child arranges each color block, with a base beneath each color block.

The child will then have to match each color peg to the corresponding wooden block one by one.

Isn’t Box 4 a work of art?

This is for children ages 3.5 or older.

The direct aim is color identification and visual discrimination of different color shades.
