#1 Montessori Environment Fall Decorations
In following The Montessori Method, your Montessori learning environment is to always be clean, organized and decorated in a way that is pleasing to the eye.
When it comes to decorating for different seasons or holidays, the same rules apply.
Children learn so well when they are immersed in the learning experience.
Make it a point to decorate the Montessori environment for Fall because this season represents such a great learning experience.
Decorate The Montessori prepared environment with pumpkins and Fall wreaths.
You can change colors to yellows, reds, browns and oranges.
Keep it simple, but homey.
Make sure children will notice the decorations without being too big of a distraction.
You can decorate the entire Montessori environment.
Or, if you prefer, you can decorate only one corner of The Montessori classroom.
You are The Montessori teacher, so you decide.
#2 Montessori Fall Activities
As Montessori educators, see if you can match up children’s Sensitive Periods with age-appropriate fun Fall activities.
I am not saying that you will have to go all and do big things, such as a corn maze!
No! Not at all.
Go to a pumpkin patch that has different Fall-related and Fall-themed materials.
Collect:
- pine cones
- gourds
- small pumpkins
- corn husks
- corn in different colors
Put together activities that help children practice fine motor skills.
Practical Life activities are perfect for this:
- plucking corn off the cob
- making dolls out of corn husks
- counting pumpkin seeds
- transferring small pumpkins and gourds from one basket to another
- cutting apple pie slices
- making apple cider
Incorporate Sensorial activities as well!
Think about the 5 senses and put together activities that focus on these, such as color discrimination with corn kernels, taste and smell of Fall-themed spices and other fragrances and so on.
I go more into detail for Sensorial options in the video training in this post and the podcast, so make the time to watch!
Remember that children have the freedom of choice, so keep original Montessori Materials on the shelves.
Children also have freedom of movement, so let them do these activities on the floor or at tables.
#3 Montessori Fall Printables
Now, the last option I have for you is to put together printable materials.
These have to be Montessori-inspired.
And they also have to be educational.
Lastly, they have to aim at children’s open Sensitive Periods.
So, let me tell you right now that I am not against topic- or subject-themed printables.
What I am against is to think that if you buy a bundle, that you need or have to set up all of the printable activities one time.
You must follow the child and set out only those works that the child is ready for and interested in.
So, let me share with you a bundle that I have put together for Fall.
These printables are beautiful and very educational.
