This episode is about the Montessori way of multi-aged groups and some of the benefits of it.

There are some important aspects of children growing up with children of other ages.

Research supports the mix-aged classrooms.

The Montessori philosophy sets up their environments this way. They have ages 3-6, 6-9, 9-12 and so on.

There are three-year spans with each group having a teacher and an assistant.

Montessori Classrooms

Montessori classrooms are multi-aged for a reason.

The environment is set up for learning.

There are benefits to this type of grouping.

Some benefits are:

– Socialization – multi-aged groups help with socialization. Children learn how to interact with people of all ages.

– Independence – multi-aged groups help with independence. Children learn how to be independent and responsible for their own learning.

– Responsibility – multi-aged groups help with responsibility. Children learn to be responsible for their own learning and the learning of others.

– Cooperative learning – multi-aged groups help with cooperative learning. Children learn how to work together in order to achieve a common goal.

Multi-Aged Groups in Montessori

The multi-aged groups give the children a chance to interact with different people.

This helps them learn how to get along with others, even if they don’t agree all the time.

It also allows them to see that people can be good friends even if they’re not the same age.

The multi-aged groups also give the children a chance to act as leaders and followers.

They learn how to take turns being in charge and helping others.

This is an important skill for life, no matter what age you are.

Montessori Mixed Ages

The multi-aged groups allow for more individualized instruction.

The teachers can meet each child where they are at developmentally and academically.

This is because there are a range of ages in each group.

The multi-aged groups give the children a chance to learn from each other.

The older children can help the younger ones with things they already know.

And the younger children can teach the older ones new things too.

This mutual learning is a special gift of multi-aged groups.

Do you have experience with multi-aged groups?

We’d love to hear about it in the comments!
