The Montessori Sensorial Subject is Important

The Montessori sensorial area is one of the most important in the classroom.

It helps children develop their senses and understand the world around them.

Sensorial materials must have certain qualities to be effective.

They must be:

1. Interesting

2. Stimulating

3. Engaging

If a material does not have these qualities, it will not hold a child’s attention and will not be effective.

To be interesting, a material must capture a child’s attention.

It should be visually appealing and engaging.

Children should want to touch, feel, and explore the material.

To be stimulating, a material must provide a sense of discovery.

It should encourage children to use their senses to explore.

To be engaging, a material must be interactive.

It should invite children to manipulate and experiment with the material.

3 Must-Have Qualities in Montessori Sensorial Materials

  1. Notice the 5 senses: If a material does not have these qualities, it will not hold a child’s attention and will not be effective.
  2. Experience the 5 Senses: To be interesting, a material must capture a child’s attention. It should be visually appealing and engaging. Children should want to touch, feel, and explore the material.
  3. Categorize the 5 Senses: To be stimulating, a material must provide a sense of discovery. It should encourage children to use their senses.

Now that you know the three must-have qualities in Montessori sensorial materials, you can select materials that are sure to capture your child’s attention and provide a stimulating and interactive learning experience.
